What Good Governance Looks Like
Good governance helps ensure that leadership, oversight and assurance are informed, transparent and focused on achieving positive outcomes. It provides a clear framework for accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement, helping partners work effectively towards shared objectives.
The Employability and Economic Inactivity Leadership Group (EEILG) is committed to the following principles of good governance:
Strategic Leadership
Maintaining a clear focus on priorities, outcomes and long-term goals that support increased labour market participation and improved employability outcomes across Scotland.
Accountability
Ensuring that roles, responsibilities and reporting arrangements are clear, understood and appropriately documented. Members are accountable for representing their organisations, contributing expertise and supporting collective priorities.
Collaboration
Working collectively across national and local government, public bodies, employers, communities and the third sector to address shared challenges and opportunities.
Transparency
The Group promotes transparency by being open about its purpose, remit and membership. Information about the Group, including its Terms of Reference and meeting minutes, is published on the gov.scot website. This provides visibility of the Group's discussions, areas of focus and ongoing work, supporting openness and collective accountability across partner organisations.
Evidence-Informed Discussion
Using data, research, operational insight and stakeholder feedback to inform discussions, identify priorities and support strategic leadership and assurance.
Constructive Challenge and Assurance
Providing appropriate scrutiny of progress, risks and opportunities, while supporting continuous improvement and the achievement of shared objectives.
Inclusion and Partnership
Recognising the value of diverse perspectives and experiences, ensuring that discussion reflects the needs of people, communities and employers across Scotland.
Continuous Improvement
Encouraging learning, sharing good practice and identifying opportunities to improve outcomes and strengthen partnership working.
Through these principles, the Group supports effective governance, promotes collective responsibility and helps ensure that employability and economic inactivity priorities are progressed in a coordinated and impactful way.
